Dust spots

The Spot Brush (J) removes dust, scratches and other small marks by replacing them with texture taken from nearby, so the film grain stays natural.

Remove a mark

  1. Choose the Spot Brush.
  2. Set the Size a little larger than the mark, and Hardness for how soft the edge is.
  3. Click the mark, or drag a short stroke over a scratch.

With Find the speck inside the brush ticked (the default), the app finds the mark inside the brush circle and repairs just that. Untick it to repair the whole circle.

Zoom in to 100% for the best view of what you are repairing.

Where the repairs go

Repairs are kept on their own Spot Repairs layer, so the photograph is never changed. Each stroke is one undo step, and you can hide the layer to compare, or delete it to remove every repair.

Tips

  • If the first result is not right, undo and click again, perhaps slightly off the mark or with a different size.
  • Make a selection first to keep repairs inside an area. See Selections.
  • Repairs see the picture as it looks now, including earlier repairs.
